Finding Meaning Through Meditation and Kindness

How can meditation improve your life? Maybe you have tried meditation before but you don’t feel any different, or you feel like your meditation isn’t progressing? Would you like to learn a range of meditation techniques that are specifically aimed at boosting positive mental and emotional qualities like kindness, happiness, contentment and joy? You can learn these techniques at our free guided meditation sessions delivered by a Buddhist monk.

Over eight weeks of the Nurturing Awareness course, you will learn various meditation techniques that aim to improve the quality of your heart and mind. These include:

    • Week 1: Nurturing Awareness: Unconditional kindness for others through meditation
    • Week 2: Self-Nurturing Awareness: Unconditional kindness for yourself through meditation
    • Week 3: Caring Awareness: Cultivating compassion through meditation
    • Week 4: Elevated Awareness: Experiencing elevated joy through meditation
    • Week 5: Balanced Awareness: Developing acceptance and contentment through meditation
    • Week 6: Forgiving Awareness: Steps towards offering and receiving forgiveness through meditation
    • Week 7: Nurturing Awareness Challenges: Generating kindness and acceptance for difficult people through meditation
    • Week 8: Grateful and Generous Awareness: Cultivating gratitude and unselfishness through meditation

These free sessions are suitable for meditators who want to learn new techniques to expand their practice. It’s not required that you attend each week, so you can drop in on any session. Also, you will have the opportunity to ask an experienced Buddhist monk your own questions about meditation.

Nurturing Awareness: How to cultivate unconditional kindness for others through meditation

This is the first in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness: Finding meaning through meditation and kindness. In it, Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques to develop Nurturing awareness, which is unconditional kindness towards others.
  • Lead a guided meditation of Nurturing awareness.
  • Outline how unconditional kindness meditation facilitates deep connections with others, and how to use it as an antidote to anger, ill will and frustration.
  • Answer your questions about meditation.
  • Offer some insight and guidance on common concerns, obstacles and issues meditators face.

Self-Nurturing Awareness: How to develop unconditional kindness for yourself through meditation

This is the second in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques for Self-nurturing awareness, which the development of kindness, care and compassion towards oneself.
  • Lead a guided meditation of Self-nurturing awareness.
  • Outline how self-kindness meditation promotes contentment and happiness within oneself,  and how it is used to overcome self-hatred, self-criticism and low self-worth. 
  • Answer your questions about meditation.
  • Offer some insight and guidance on common concerns, obstacles and issues meditators face.

 Caring Awareness: How to cultivate compassion through meditation

This is the third in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques for Caring Awareness, which is cultivating care and compassion for those around you 
  • Lead a guided meditation of Caring awareness.
  • Outline compassion meditation’s connection with generosity and goodwill, and how it can engender a deep connection with our common humanity. Also how to use it to deal with distress, burnout and feeling overwhelmed.

  • Offer some insight and guidance on common concerns, obstacles and issues meditators face.

Elevated Awareness: How to experience elevated joy through meditation

This is the fourth in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques for Elevated awareness, which is experiencing elevated joy in the goodness of others and in the world. 
  • Lead a guided meditation of Elevated awareness.
  • Outline how elevated joy meditation helps us overcome jealousy, envy and cynicism, and in their place foster an attitude of ‘seeing the best in others’ without naivety. 
  • Answer your questions about meditation. 
  • Offer some insight and guidance on common concerns, obstacles and issues meditators face.

Balanced Awareness: How to develop contentment and acceptance through meditation

This is the fifth in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques to develop Balanced awareness, which is equanimity and acceptance towards your life and the situations you find yourself in.  
  • Lead a guided meditation of Balanced awareness.
  • Describe how meditation on equanimity leads to ‘letting go’ and the ability to embrace the good and bad, the loved and the unloved, and the pleasant and the painful. Ajahn will also outline its connection with patience and how it facilitates the capacity to stay serene in the midst of chaotic situations.
  • Answer your questions about meditation.
  • Offer some insight and guidance on common concerns, obstacles and issues meditators face.

Forgiving Awareness: How to offer and receive forgiveness through meditation 

This is the sixth in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques of Forgiving awareness, which is the generation of forgiveness towards those who have wronged us and importantly, towards oneself. 
  • Lead a guided meditation of Forgiving awareness.
  • Outline how forgiveness meditation develops the right conditions to give and receive forgiveness without ‘becoming a doormat’. This meditation allows us to begin to let go of burdens of guilt, regrets or grudges, and in their place, eventually leads us to the wisdom that we all at times ‘don’t understand’ how our actions cause harm.

Nurturing Awareness for difficult people: How to generate kindness and acceptance towards difficult people through meditation

This is the seventh in the series of eight of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques to develop kindness and understanding towards difficult people. 
  • Lead a guided meditation of Nurturing awareness towards difficult people.
  • Describe how it’s possible to develop kindness and change our relationship towards difficult people through meditation, and the inner strength and resiliency kindness offers us. Also outline how this meditation does not promote a complacency in peoples’ negative actions, but diffuse the associated feelings of annoyance, ill will or anger towards them.

Grateful and Generous Awareness: How to cultivate gratitude and unselfishness through meditation

This is the eighth and final session of Nurturing Awareness. In it Ajahn Sādaro will:

  • Offer a variety of meditation techniques to develop gratitude and generosity.
  • Lead a guided meditation of Grateful and generous awareness.
  • Outline the interconnectivity of gratitude and generosity. Describe how meditation on gratitude allows us to deeply appreciate our existence and solidify connections with others, and further, how meditation on generosity helps us reward those connections and pay forward our appreciation for our life. Finally, how these meditations can be used to overcome greed, selfishness and self-centeredness, and drive us forward in contributing wholeheartedly to make the world a bit better place.
