Where Do I Start?
This is the first session in the series of four of Introduction to Buddhist thought and practice. Throughout the session, Ajahn Sādaro will:
- Describe his journey of starting out in Buddhism and why he became a monk
- Cover what Buddhists believe, and importantly, what enlightenment is and why anyone would want it
- Describe who the Buddha was, what he taught, and how Buddhism came to be in its different forms throughout history, up until its present form
- Describe how you can bring the aspiration of enlightenment into your life without being a Buddhist
The session will include a short guided meditation and opportunity to ask any questions about Buddhism from a monk.
After the session, you are welcome to have tea and snacks with us. We hope to see you!
What are the most important Buddhist Ideas?
This is the second session in the series of four of Introduction to Buddhist thought and practice. Throughout the session, Ajahn Sādaro will:
- Tell the story of how practicing the Buddhist teachings has radically changed his own life
- Describe key Buddhist concepts, like karma or the four noble truths, in a jargon free and easy to understand way
- Describe how you apply and practically use these teachings in your life for greater happiness, and not just learn the topic for the sake of interest.
The session will include a short guided meditation and opportunity to ask any questions about Buddhism from a monk.
After the session, you are welcome to have tea and snacks with us. We hope to see you!
*Note. It’s not necessary for you to have attended the previous sessions, weekly drop ins are welcome
What is the main benefit of practicing Buddhism?
This is the third session in the series of four of Introduction to Buddhist thought and practice. Throughout the session, Ajahn Sādaro will:
- Reflect on how he has progressed as a person and what he has gained out of practicing Buddhism, and how it may benefit you
- Describe how the Buddhist path enables us to let go of our incessant wanting for things, our anger and ill will towards others, and our confusion around the natural state of existence
- Describe how Buddhist meditation enables you to develop deep states of calm, boundless kindness and compassion, and importantly, an acceptance of the way our lives are
- Show you how you can develop these same qualities in your life to bring about peace and contentment in whatever situation life throws at you
The session will include a short guided meditation and opportunity to ask any questions about Buddhism from a monk.
After the session, you are welcome to have tea and snacks with us. We hope to see you!
*Note. It’s not necessary for you to have attended the previous sessions, weekly drop ins are welcome
How do I practice Buddhism?
This is the final session of Introduction to Buddhist thought and practice. Throughout the session, Ajahn Sādaro will:
- Explain why he is still a Buddhist and continues to practice after all these years
- Describe where the Buddhist path of practice actually begins. Showing how it starts with our acts of generosity, how we ethically engage in society, and how we tame our thoughts and emotions through meditation
- Ask the question on whether Buddhism is useful for the world today, and if it is, how we can embody the teachings to best serve the modern world.
The session will include a guided mediation and opportunity to ask any questions about Buddhism from a monk.
After the session, you are welcome to have tea and snacks with us. We hope to see you!
*Note. It’s not necessary for you to have attended the previous sessions, weekly drop ins are welcome
