The SOS Centre building progress has been impacted by the industry shortage of labour, escalated cost of materials and labour. Our accumulated building funds that met the original contracted building cost has become insufficient. We are seeking support to help complete the remaining work, cover part of the funding shortfall of $150,000, and to repay the borrowed interest-free loan to the project amounting to $350,000.
In February 2024, the previously contracted builder for the project had been removed and the NBM Building Team has taken over the management of the building work as “Owners Builder”. Another registered builder has been appointed to continue with the work.
As the team, comprising of professional volunteers, worked through the partially completed buildings and infrastructures, a lot of construction defects had been found and required rectifications. In the process, a lot of work had also been done to complete the 5 cottages, courtyard, and the hall structure in the following months.
As experienced in the Australia Building industry, most of the costs relating to materials and labours have escalated by between 30% to 60%. A few items had even gone up by about 100%. As a result, our initial building fund accumulated to meet the contracted building cost, is insufficient to fund the remaining work.
To complete the remaining work, borrowed funds will be used to cover for part of the shortfall. We gratefully seek support to help us cover part of the funding shortfall amounting to $150,000, and to repay the borrowed interest-free loan to the Monastery Building project amounting to $350,000.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, will directly assist in paying off the loan for the Sanctuary of Stillness Centre and helping us overcome the financial shortfaull. Your generosity will ensure this vital space continues to serve the community for years to come.
