Battlefield Dharma: Buddhist chaplaincy as Buddhist practice

Time: 9.30 am – 11.00 am
Venue: BSV Buddhaloka Centre
71 Darling Road, Malvern East VIC 3145

Biography:
Hōjun Futen is a Zen Buddhist monk and previous Spiritual Care Coordinator with the Buddhist Council of Victoria for over 11 years. He has been the Buddhist chaplain in twelve prisons across the State as well as the Buddhist chaplain at Royal Melbourne Hospital and at the Austin Repatriation Hospital’s Psychological Trauma Recovery Service. Hōjun currently serves as the Buddhist chaplain at the University of Melbourne.

During his time as a chaplain and trainer of chaplains,  Hōjun has developed a unique perspective in viewing chaplaincy’s spiritual work as akin to being a battlefield surgeon, attempting to provide healing in the very midst of ongoing conflict and suffering.

Hōjun will explore his history and perspective in chaplaincy with the BSV.

Please note this Dhamma Talk will not be LiveStreamed.

At 11 am, there is rice pindapāta and offering lunch dana to the monastics, followed by communal lunch. Please bring a plate of food to share with the monastics and lay community.
