About The Teacher
Venerable Watagoda Maggavihari received his novice ordination from Most Venerable Na-uyana Ariyadhamma in 2006 and entered the noble monastic life in the year 2007. After spending six years receiving advice and guidance from Venerable Na-uyana Ariyadhamma, in 2012 he left for Myanmar to learn more about Theravada Buddhism at The International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University where he completed his master’s degree in Pāḷi Studies. During his year off between his BA and starting his MA, he spent some extended time at Wat Pah Nanachat in Thailand to learn about the Thai Forest Tradition.
Venerable Watagoda Maggavihari has been teaching since his early years as a monk and recently helped establish The International Institute of Theravada in Kaluvaragaswewa, Sri Lanka. There are roughly 80 local and international monastic residents training at his monastery. The monastery has a six year study program which opened to the public in 2022. The monastery is continually expanding and aims to properly educate monks of all Theravāda traditions with the traditional Theravāda Buddhist studies to help sustain and preserve the Buddhist Teachings.
