Ajahn Brahm’s 75th Birthday Celebration at the Buddhaloka Centre

Time: 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
Venue: Buddhaloka Centre
71 Darling Road, Malvern East VIC 3145
Please note, this talk is replacing the regular Sunday Dhamma Talk as it is part of Ajahn Brahm’s 75th Birthday Celebration scheduled on Saturday, 1 August 2026
Join us for a joyful and meaningful day as we celebrate Ajahn Brahm’s “900th” birthday at the Buddhaloka Centre. In his signature light-hearted way, Ajahn Brahm jokes that he is turning 900—though more conventionally speaking, he is celebrating 75 years—marking a life rich in timeless wisdom, warmth, humour, and compassion shared with the world.
This year’s celebration is especially significant. Ajahn Brahm has chosen to dedicate his birthday support towards the construction of a new Meditation Hall at the Sanctuary of Stillness Retreat Centre—a beautiful offering for future generations of practitioners. We are also delighted to be joining in the wider celebrations organised by the Buddhist Society of Western Australia (BSWA), making this a shared occasion of gratitude across communities.
All monastics from Newbury Buddhist Monastery (NBM) will be at the Buddhaloka Centre for the day, creating a rare and special opportunity to connect, offer, and celebrate together.
Program
9:30 am – 10:30 am: Fireside Chat with NBM and BSV monastics
10:30 am – 12:15 pm: Rice pindapāta and offering of lunch dana for 7 monastics, followed by communal lunch
12:15 pm – 1:50 pm: Community activities (raffles, cupcakes, coffee stalls, claw machine games, trivia and more) – all proceeds will go to the construction of the Meditation Hall at the Newbury Buddhist Monastery
2:00 pm – 2:30 pm: Live online Dhamma Talk by Ajahn Brahm
2:30 pm – 3:00 pm: Live auction
Fireside Chat
This conversation explores emerging possibilities in spiritual life and community. Drawing on the living example of Newbury Buddhist Monastery and Ajahn Brahm’s enduring influence, it reflects on how the practice of Dhamma continues to evolve, reach new communities, and inspire future generations of practitioners and monastics.
Lunch Dana
At 10:30 am, we will offer rice pindapāta and lunch to the monastics, followed by a shared meal. You are warmly invited to bring a plate of freshly prepared food to offer and share. Please deliver your offering to the Vihara kitchen upon arrival, no later than 10:00 am, to assist with preparation.
Parking
Parking will be available at the rear of the Centre via Terminus Lane. Please be mindful of local residents and ensure driveways are not obstructed.
