Newbury Buddhist Monastery (NBM) Retreat Centre Caretaker Positions

by | Nov 4, 2022 | BCM, NBM

The Buddhist Society of Victoria Inc. is seeking expressions of interest from members of the community who are interested in becoming a long-term resident at NBM while in service of the role of Retreat Centre Caretaker. The NBM supports a Four Fold Assembly of monks, nuns, laymen and laywomen. The candidate should be familiar with and live by the Buddhist principles, including the 5, 8 or 10 Precepts.

There are two volunteer positions – one male and one female caretaker. The caretakers will be provided board & lodging and will reside in a purpose-built cottage at the Retreat Centre.
They will be responsible for and not limited to:
  • ensuring the Retreat Centre is well maintained and secure
  • ensuring access is readily available to those who have booked for self-retreats, and organised group retreats
  • ensuring that all services performed by the caretaker are done in a friendly, customer focused manner
  • maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the monastics and the Society’s Committee ensuring the smooth operation of the Retreat Centre
  • offering breakfast or ensuring someone offers breakfast to the Sangha each morning
  • managing and administering general queries (email, phone and in person) and queries related to retreats conducted at the Centre
Whilst we are establishing the centre especially during the first few years of its operation, the role and responsibilities may vary to reflect demand and conditions. It would be highly desirable for the candidate to be flexible and be able to adjust to the situation and needs.  If you are committed to serving the Dhamma in this way, have a sound background in administration, customer service and enjoy serving others, we invite you to register your expression of interest here

Applications Close:  9pm Monday 19th December 2022
