SUMMARY:Growing Together in 2026
DESCRIPTION:A warm invitation to Welcome 2026 at the BSV Buddhaloka Centre\nThe theme for this year is “Growing Together in 2026.” Of course\, it’s growing together as we walk the Noble Eightfold Path together with Spiritual Friends (Kalyānamittas). It creates a sense of community\, which can give us support and strength as we practice. Just like a tree that grows on its own can be more easily blown over by the wind and rain than a tree that is part of a forest\, which has much more support and protection. It is also important how we walk the Path together. We need to embrace the four Divine Abidings (Brahmavihāras) – Friendliness (Mettā)\, Caring (Karunā)\, Joy for other’s good qualities (Muditā)\, and Equanimity (Upekkha). \nMay we walk the Path joyfully together into 2026! \nDate: Wednesday\, 31st December 2025\nVenue: BSV Buddhaloka Centre\, 71 Darling Road\, Malvern East \nThose who wish to bring offerings of lights (tealights only)\, flowers and incense may offer these at the Buddha statue in the front garden before the program begins. Please bring finger food for a shared supper. \nProgram:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n 9:00 PM\n  Welcome address\n\n\n 9:05 PM\n  Group Activity\n\n\n 9:40 PM\n  Guided Metta Meditation led by Ajahn Nissarano\n\n\n 10:00 PM\n  Break for light refreshments\n\n\n 10:25 PM\n  Water Blessing\n\n\n 10:30 PM\n  Chanting\n\n\n 10:45 PM\n  Dhamma Quiz\n\n\n 11:30 PM\n  Reflecting with Gratitude (Guided)\n\n\n 11:55 PM\n  Count Down to Midnight\n\n\n 12:00 AM\n  Dedication of Merit & Blessing\n\n\n 12:15 AM\n  Thank you & end of event\n\n\n\n  \nThe BSV Buddhaloka Centre will be open from 9am – 3pm on New Year’s Day (Thursday\, 1st January). \n11 am: Offering lunch dana to the monastics\, followed by communal lunch\nYou are very welcome to participate. Please bring a plate of food to share with the monastics and lay community. We kindly request those who wish to make an offering\, to deliver their contribution to the Vihara kitchen no later than 10:30am. SUMMARY:BSV Vesak Celebrations with Ajahn Brahm
DESCRIPTION:BSV Vesak Celebrations 2024 with Ajahn Brahm\nThe BSV committee invites you to celebrate Vesak Day with us to commemorate the Buddha’s Birth\, Enlightenment\, and Final Passing (Parinibbana). This year’s event will be held at the Buddhaloka Centre Malvern (BCM). \nDate: Sunday\, 26 May 2024\nLocation: 71 Darling Rd\, Malvern East\nTime: 11:30 am – 4.00 pm (AEST) \nWe will have our regular Sunday morning chanting starting at 11.30am followed by a Dhamma Talk by Ajahn Brahm\, ending with a Question & Answer session with Ajahn. \nAs you are aware\, BCM has limited space and as we are expecting a significantly larger than our normal Sunday gathering\, we have decided not to have the Sunday dana offering and communal lunch for this event. The logistics and traffic from the morning dana drop-offs will create traffic congestion and disruption along Darling Road and the neighborhood. This will be unmanageable and beyond our control. \nGiven the event on Sunday will only start at 11.30 am\, there will be no dana offering and communal lunch. We kindly request that you do not bring any food dana to offer to the monastics on the day. However\, you are most welcome to offer non-food requisites to the monastics. Most of the requisites such as robes and smaller items can be purchased onsite on the day. After some studies and a search for a good and meaningful way of living\, being disenchanted with the primary focus on material wellbeing so prevalent in society\, he stumbled into a small forest monastery in Sri Lanka in 1998 at the age of twenty-four. The teachings of the Buddha and meditation practice seemed to him to make so much sense\, answer many questions and solve the fundamental problems in life. So\, the same year he ordained there as a novice under Bhikkhu Kaṭukurunde Ñāṇananda and received higher ordination in 2000. He has since lived for about seventeen years in forest monasteries and solitary hermitages in Sri Lanka and about eight years in monasteries and a meditation center in Southeast Asia (Thailand and Malaysia)\, Europe\, the United States and Australia. His main interests are in how the mind works\, how to free oneself from suffering (dukkha) and how to practically apply the discourses of the Buddha (Suttas) to realize the end of all suffering (dukkhanirodha). \nHe is presently living in Newbury Buddhist Monastery\, staying there until the end of April. \n\n\n\nThis event will not be live streamed.
