You can put everything down for the day and come to the free meditation retreat offered at the Buddhist Society of Victoria’s meditation centre. \nOn the One Mindful Day Retreat\, you will receive multiple guided meditation sessions by an experienced Buddhist monk to quieten your restless thoughts through developing mindfulness\, calm\, contentment and acceptance. Also\, you will also have the opportunity to improve the quality of your heart and mind by developing other areas of a healthy and well-balanced mindful life. These include: \n\nMeditation discussion groups (develop community and friendship)\nIndividual question time with a Buddhist monk (develop wisdom)\nShared communal lunch (practicing generosity and sharing)\n\nThis free one-day meditation retreat from 9am to 4pm is suitable for those who are new or interested in learning meditation\, or for those who have just begun a meditation journey and want to improve their practice. You will have the opportunity to ask an experienced Buddhist monk your own questions about meditation. Attendance for the full day is not required\, feel free to come according to your schedule. This year’s event will be held at the Newbury Buddhist Monastery (107 Beaches Lane\, Newbury).Date: Sunday\, 10 November 2024Time: 09:30 am – 03:00 pm (AEDT)  \nPlease arrive by 9.00 am to enable the event to commence at 9.30 am sharp. \nIn the morning there will be a Dhamma Talk by Ajahn Nissarano followed by Rice Pindapatha and offering lunch dana to the Monastics. Communal lunch will be at 11.30am. If you wish\, please bring a dish to share with the monastics and the lay community. Please bring ready-to-eat food. No food preparation and reheating available.  The Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony will begin at 12:30 pm. \nAttending in personYou are encouraged to check the weather at Newbury before leaving home and bring suitable clothes (e.g. jacket\, hat/beanie) including an umbrella. The weather at Newbury is usually 5 degrees cooler than in Melbourne. DESCRIPTION:Dhamma Talk by Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu\nTime: 7.00pm – 9.00pm\nVenue: BSV Buddhaloka Centre\n71 Darling Road\, Malvern East VIC 3145 \nAbout Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu\nṬhānissaro Bhikkhu (also known as Ajahn Geoff) is an American Buddhist monk belonging to the Thai Forest Tradition. Ordained in 1976\, he studied for ten years under the forest master Ajahn Fuang Jotiko. Since 1993 he has served as abbot of the Metta Forest Monastery in San Diego County\, California—the first monastery in the Thai Forest Tradition in the U.S. He is well known for the vast body of his translation work which includes the Sutta Pitaka and the Dhammapada and has also translated Ajahn Lee’s meditation manuals from Thai. He is the author of The Buddhist Monastic Code\, a two-volume reference handbook on the topic of monastic discipline. \n\n
