Ayya Sucinta PDF Print E-mail

Venerable Sucinta Bhikkhuni is the founding Abbess of Sanghamittārāma.  She came to Australia by invitation from the Buddhist Society of Victoria to explore establishing a monastery of Bhikkhunis in the Theravada tradition.

Venerable Sucinta Bhikhuni was born in Germany and began monastic life as an anagarika at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England in 1991. Later she joined the Bhavana Society of West Virgina, USA.  In 1998 she received Bhikkhuni Ordination in Bodhgaya, India.  She has also spent several years meditating and studying in Myanmar.

Ayya Sucinta will be taking leave from Sanghamittarama commencing January 2010.  We feel great gratitude for the enormous amount of work Ayya has put into establishing the Bhikkhuni vihara and for her dedication to its success.  We thank her for the many Teachings she has offered both at Sanghamittarama and the Buddhaloka Centre and in many other venues.  Before she leaves in January, she will be again participating in the Buddhist Summer School at Melbourne University and she has recently contributed to a Psychology and Buddhism Conference in Healesville at Maitripa Contemplative Centre.

We wish her well in 2010 and trust it will be a peaceful and restful one.  We also hope that it will be possible for her to return in 2011.
